Over the years I've seen 2 different kinds of wheel trim rings supplied with type 3s: The ones I call the plain ones, which are just one piece of aluminum. And the ones that are the same as those above, but that have, in addition, a grey rubber insert around the valve stem. I know that my 68 came with the plain version, so I suspect that the ones with the inserts came with earlier years. Can someone tell me what years each kind was used? In the US, the wheel trim rings were dropped after 69, and the wheels came painted silver instead. Were the trim rings still used in any other markets? If so, did those cars still come with silver painted wheels under the trim rings? [I should clarify the "silver painted" wheels. They were actually painted black all over and then oversprayed silver ONLY in the area outside the hubcap on the outside face of the wheel, with signs of overspray inside the outer edge of the area covered by the hubcap.] -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
