My understanding of the law is mostly hear-say and I haven't read through it
on the web site in a long while. Having said that, it is my understanding
that, the law is subject to periodic review and, that as it stands, it calls
for compliance and keeping the vehicle stock, with the possibility or random
checks by the police always present. That is meant to keep people honest. A
neighbor of mine who drives a very well done 2.2L 68 bug was pulled over the
other day by a cop who did not like the looks of his SS muffler. When he
looked under the lid and saw the motor, he wrote him a hefty $300 ticket for
altering the original state of the vehicle and he has an x number of days to
restore the original setup and have it verified by a state approved smog
station. I could not believe the whole story but it was true.
