I've been trying to straighten out a list I've made of FI parts as they were used over the various years. As some of you know, the C brain was introduced with the '70 models, but was replaced by the D in mid year. One of my sources says that the D brain was introduced in April of '70. I've been trying to pin down the engine numbers and VIN numbers when this happened. It helps to know that they also changed the temp switch at the same time, so I have 2 places to look in the microfilm. I have a beginning VIN for the D brain of 310 2 187 207. Is this consistent with an April start date? Unfortunately, it appears that there is a typo in everything I have from VW, because they have the engine numbers running backwards. If you have a parts list that is updated thru this era, please check what you see under the following parts: 311 906 161B Thermo switch (see Workshop bulletin K-21) 311 906 021D Electronic control unit (see parts service bulletin 9/16) I don't have either of these bulletins, but they may have the correct data in them.
