The bumper mounts forward, or a little further back? When I did my 71 Roadster, I cut thru the fuel tank opening (the rectanglular part), and trimmed the "new" part to the same size. I used ALL the body bolts to help line everything up, as I bolted the fenders back on to help get everything how I liked it, while continously checking to see if the opening for the fuel was square. The hardest part about doing mine wasn't the metal work itself, but rather getting the hood springs back on, as those babies have some tension on them. :0 I hope this helps.
