PetriC=> I read somewhere that for newer engines an => additive is not necessary, but on an original (possibly tired) => engine you may need it to prevent the heads and valves => to die prematurely. This might be useful advice for L-heads from the '40s, but it does not apply to our VWs. Remember also that there were lots of happy motors moving cars, cargo and people around long before the oil companies started putting lead in the fuel and charging more for it.
