It's certainly possible to hack a system together without those parts, and I'm sure there are a lot of cars even on this list that are doing without the rear exchangers, for instance, since that's how most aftermarket exhausts are set up. Leaving out the rear exchangers cuts your heat capacity by at least a third and you *have* to use an aftermarket exhaust. Leaving out the mixers and thermostats creates what seems like a lot of plumbing hassle to get any heat at all, and what you'd get would be uncontrolled. So my take is that it may seem hard to find the parts at this point, but getting by without them adds even more hassle for a very much suboptimal result. Have you checked www.thesamba.com?
