I took my '73 Fastback out for a ride tonight and noticed that the oil light flashed. I decided to turn around knowing that driving an old VW with the oil light on is not a good idea. The light flashed one more time on the way home. I opened up the engine compartment and the engine block was covered with oil. I knew before this that I had an oil leak as the car would leave a spot after a drive and I noticed a small amount of oil on top of the engine block. The situation now seems to be more severe with the oil light coming on and the large amount of oil covering the block. I used about 1/2 of a quart in about 30 miles of driving. It actually looks like oil splattered or was sprayed in some places! What should I do? I'd hate to get rid of the car, but it's got some body rust and I don't want to pump alot of money into it either.
