I learned to drive in a 50' bug. Our family had that car for years & I took it to college in the late 60's. I can't remember adjusting the valve's but once & then they were only off a little on the loose side. That had to be at somewhere between 200 & 300 thou. All of the engines that I've had since need adjustment at around 6 -9 thou. Maybe more power isn't such a great thing.
