It would just have been a little smaller in diameter, and would have had a lesser load rating. In the front it would have been no big problem for a few day's use, but in the rear you would not want to drive long distances on it since it would make the differential work all the time. > I never had a flat in all those years, through > at least 5 sets of tires I can remember. In 35 years I think I've only had 1 flat with radials on my squares. Our 96 Taurus has had 5-6 punctures in 8 years.... > It is on a T3 rim though. Who would have put > a Beetle tire on a T3 rim? Are you SURE it's a T3 rim? Late T1 and T3 rims are the same except for the offset. Your T3 rims should be 4.5" wide (inside, at the bead) and have 46mm offset. These numbers are actually stamped on the wheel center disk, between 2 lug bolt holes. It's easy to measure the 4.5, and there's an easy test for the offset if you can't read it. It's VERY common to find beetle wheels & tires which have been swapped onto type 3s, and not too unusual to find beetle tires mounted on OE type 3 wheels. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
