When I first heard your issue, I thought I'd suggest
maybe a loose head-to-exhaust connection, but I
thought I'd leave it to the people on the list since
I'm still a novice at all this...

I still haven't gotten to fix my bad exhaust (one of
the reasons I didn't go to the Invasion) where it's
rusting between the large heat exchanger & the
muffler.

The most pronounced noise is a RAT TAT TAT TAT TAT
that sounds like something knocking very loudly. The
hole is not that large, but it's enough to make a loud
tapping type noise that's quite unnerving. I know it's
just the exhaust since the rust has been deteriorating
the pipe very slowly and the noise has gotten
progressively worse. I'm hoping to finally get to it
this weekend.

I don't remember if you can reach the rear
head-to-exhaust connection with the engine in the car,
but you might check that if you can get to it?
