hello ive just purchased a TO3 garret turbo and on my summer holidays it will be getting fitted to my typ4 engine in my sqr now i am at present running about 9.5-1 compression a little on the high side yes but i dont intend to run more than a half bar boost and it will be intercooled and hopefully water injected this is going to be blow thru on standard dell 40,s the vw 1.8t engine that this turbo comes from runs 9.5-1 and will run no problems on normal petrol yes it has knock sensors full ecu ignition etc etc but none the less it is at that high a comp ration the germans with the addition of a TO4 garret and various other bits and bobs are getting 300+ bhp out of them!!! in a golf !!! back to aircooled the sensible thing to do would be fit a typ4 engine get it all nipped tucked squared away as a normally aspirated engine in your car first. when you build it keep your future plans for turbo in mind. you will not regret a typ4 i just did a trip to hannover and back to visit my daughter in hospital (150km). my cylinder head temps at a steady 160kph with ambient temps of 30c was 300f short bursts for 190kph (to overtake on the autobahn) pushed me to a needles width from 350f dropping straight back as the speed decreased .oil temps at just under 100c dropping to around 90 if i put my fan on the additional oil cooler located to the left of my gearbox below the luggage area. my car will do this all the day long!!! turboing my car wont bbetter my top end god only knows 200kph is scary enough as it is but it will be a lot more fun getting there . get your heads step cut and lap them in real good use quality cylinders no bigger than 94mm and only forged pistons (if you can ? put some squirters in the engine case for the piston bottoms) use a late vanagon ignition with the retard fitting on the vacume can dont go wild on the cam overlap dont run it lean and dont run to much advance or boost it to much till your sure youve got it fully dialled in . turbo a typ4 in a typ3 yea why not it will be a scream!! neil verdon 66 sqr on irs 2,2ltr typ4 soon to be turboed (need bigger brakes!) the othe option is get a cheap typ4 vanagon lump weld up a header stick on a turbo run it as it is dont tuch the internals have some fun!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
