I worked for VW for over 25 years, and they never recommended camshaft breakin. I now work for Mahle, (who makes probably 75% of the OEM valve trains) and they don't recommend it. I know of no OEM car manufacturer that recommends this. And they are guaranteeing there engines now until 100K miles. I think it is a problems with the aftermarket manufacturers of speed equipment that started this "break in". -- Russ Wolfe '66 FB MT '71 FB AT '65 Bug (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
