hello all, i have an opinion question and maybe you all can help. i own a 73 fastback, that before i bought was sitting for about 5 years. i drove it for a few months, but it kept blowing injectors and stuff, and was having tranny trouble. i dont know much about engines and transmissions at all, but a buddy of mint told me that both would likely have to be rebuilt/replaced. as much as i love this car, i dont know if i have the know-how to do it myself, and being rather poor, i cant afford the rebuilt engines i am finding (rarely) online. given a worst-case scenario, do you all think it is better to save up and buy a new engine (i found some on aircooled.net but i think they were like $1800) and tranny (i cant find one of these anywhere, or even have an idea of the price), get the ones in the car rebuilt somewhere, or should i just give in and part out the car? the other thing, just to make sure, and prove how ignorant i truly am, were there 1974 type 3's? i was always told that they were only made until 1973. but the girl who i bought the car off insisted it was a 74. thanks, Jim ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
