You're right, they were all dealer installed, and as such, there was a fair amount of variety among them. The also required that a rather large hole be drilled in the dash to install them. > I need a lighter to plug my computer into; am currently wiring in a > generic replacement. Yes, there was an extra fuse that was supposed to be for aftermarket accessories. This was typically used for radios, but a lighter would also properly go here. On the few cars that I've worked on that had lighters I've never thought to look to see where they were actually wired. You might also consider a smaller, more generic jack for your laptop. There are lots of jacks available at Radio Shack that could be put to this use, and they could be small and unobtrusive. You're probably dealing with a laptop adapter that is already configured to mate directly with a lighter receptacle, however. One other possibility would be to get one of those lighter receptacles that is already mounted on a cord; then you could just wire the cord to the fuse box and let the receptacle hang down under the dash. If you were clever, it might be possible to secure it somewhere under the dash where it could be reached to plug in the laptop adapter and still be out of sight when not used. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
