Your model number only tells us that it is a '65 (not a '64) and that it is either a fastback or a notch. I think there IS a separate 3-digit model number on the plate in the trunk which tells you more, but it still only tells you LHD/RHD, body style, and sunroor or not. Neither of these has any info on the trim level or engine version. A model 315 is a LHD notch without a sunroof. If you have a factory sunroof they your 65 sunroof notch would be a model 317. The fact that your VIN starts with 315 is partly just a coincidence. The same car, made a year later would have had a VIN of 316 075 763 and would also have been a model 317, but a 67 sunroof notch would have a VIN starting with 317 as well as being a model 317. Confused? Join the club. These are two almost completely different numbers and they are a source of great confusion. IMO, VW screwed this system up royally. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
