I deleted the original message, but I was think about LEDs last night. Something to test first is the refraction properties of the lens and how that will affect the light output. The original lenses were designed for an essentially single point source of light. All of the facets of the lens are there to direct the light in the right location for visibility by the vehicle behind. A distributed source of light via LEDs may get diffused by the facets and not provide the brightness desired. This is something that must be tested, not analyzed, for I don't think any of us has the background, knowledge, nor tools to determine this type of effect. Do one side only, install it and compare both the standard and LED rear light on the same vehicle in the same conditions at the same time. Please post photos.
