Don't be too quick to let external appearances make the decision for you. Problems with the FI are all going to be in places that you can't see, many of them in places that you will still have once you have replaced all the obvious parts with nice shiny ones. Injectors that have been unused for years are often a problem, but this is due to internal rust, not external. The rubber hoses aren't rusty, but they are one of the weak points that you would probably want to replace right away anyway. The fuel pump, gas tank and steel lines may have water in there that has caused rust which you can't see and won't replace with a whole new injector system. Lots of the parts will still be fine, including the brain, wiring harness, pressure sensor, temp sensors, throttle switch, air distributor, aux air valve, etc, etc. I certainly see your point, but if you start out spending your whole budget on a new FI system what will you have left to put in to all the OTHER problems that you haven't even discovered yet, and probably won't discover until you get this thing running and drive it a bit. It WILL need brake work ($200-$600, depending....) It will probably need shocks ($50-100.) It will need a voltage regulator and battery ($100.) It will need lots of your time. You really have to assume that there are lots of things here which you will have to fix which you don't know about yet. We just don't want you to dive into this, shoot your wad, and give up halfway thru. I encourage you to set your sights just a bit lower to start out; there's plenty of time to raise them later once you have some success to point to and a better understanding of what you're up against. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
