Oops, sorry, I blew it. I read what you wrote too quickly and read both offsets as 4-1/2". Did you get the right offsets with each rim? Okay, if I do this correctly this time, the 4.5" rim has a 2.25" offset and the 5.5" rim has a 1.5" offset. If you, or CIP, had the backsets reversed, the 4.5" rim has an offset of 2" and the 5.5" rim has an offset of 1.75". The last set of numbers seems MUCH more likely because I don't know why anyone would make a wheel with a 2.25" offset, since that is larger than the 46mm type 3 offset and the type 3 offset is the largest of all the OE VW offsets. Going to an even larger offset would just pull the wheels inboard more, which is not what anyone would want. Or am I just doing these numbers wrong? The rims and the center disks have to be welded together at some offset. The manufacturer can do it anywhere you like. The rims are standard parts, while the center disks are standard to VW. The difference in offset is not visually obvious.
