Phil, I wish that I could answer your question as easily as you answered mine -- unfortunately me and my husband are new to the Type III's and are currently in the process of exploring our second one. You may try a company called ISP http://www.vwispwest.com/3.html or Bill & Steves http://www.billandsteves.com/, both of which are in Southern California. We also just checked our West Coast Metric http://www.westcoastmetric.com/catalog that lists some wires but not a complete set. Those are places that we were told would have a good selection of most Type III items. We are pretty fortunate beings we live in a City that has a VW only junkyard. It has been a wonderful resource for finding parts.
