This is a fairly common mounting scheme, and the 68-70 (and maybe 67) headlight 
relays in our more common type 3s mount by this same method. That's what I 
meant by the spring clip on top of the case. 

I think early beetle TS relays were also a large cylinder with this spring clip 
on top, but they mounted upside-down, ie spring clip on the bottom.
