Re: [T3] Type 34 pricing

<x-flowed>>

What bothers me a bit about this angle of discussion, and it comes up rather frequently, is that poor sales of the 34 often seem to be taken as a judgment of the car itself. To this I'll reply: drive one in good repair, *then* tell me what you think about it.

Well, I certainly wasn't implying that. Lots of good products sell badly because of bad marketing or whatever. I've spent 2 1/2 years and lots of money restoring one, which must mean I like it a bit, but on the other hand, I don't think you should deify it.

As for Type 34 pricing, I have a 1969 model German price list of the entire VW range.

The cheapie Beetle 1200 cost 4525 DM including tax. A 1600L notchback with 54hp engine was 7070DM,, a Karmann Ghia Type 14 1500 Cabriolet was was 8189DM, and a Type 34 was 9145DM. All of these prices were without any extras such as automatic transmission, reversing lights and whatever.
