Re: [T3] Explain this! (cigar lighter and fogs - constant power)

<x-flowed>The fogs on my Audi are wired to constant power, which bugs me a bit. There has been a couple of times when I have forgotten to turn off the lights when I park, with a drained battery as the result. The headlights (on 71-up) VWs and Audis cuts out when you turn off the lights, so I guess I need to rewire the fogs on my Audi. The light buzzer doesnt always work as it's supposed to.

On my 73 Square I did it a bit more simple. I gave the fog light switch power from the "X" contact on the ignition switch. As long as I have the fog switch ON I wont forget to turn on the lights when I go for a drive. I did of course use a relay as well, so I wont burn the X circuit in the ign switch (even though the switch is $10 at the FLAPS). And if you wonder why I dont want to forget turning on the lights, it's because it's mandatory to have lights on 24h. If you're caught without you can get a ~$75 fine.

Having the cigarette lighter wired to constant power makes a lot of sense to me, especially in this day and age of handheld communication devices. It is nice to leave i.e. the cell phone charging in the car, without having to have the ignition on.

Makes sense to me. I go a step further and wiring my radio to have constant
power instead of traditional ignition-only. I don't want to have to have keys
in the car to listen to the radio/cassette/CD/whatevernewiscoming.
