[T3] Oil Light Question

So I finally take the car (69 fastback Auto FI)to work, ( about a 30 mile
drive one way at 70mph.) I had to press the car into action as my wife
needed our other car.

First of all, when i start the car, it coughs and sputters and just barely
runs for a couple minutes, but once it warms up it idles nice, what can i do
to fix that( check pressure (33lbs)). Now when I took it to work the first
day, after the 20 minute drive at 70mph i pull up the first traffic light
and the engine is revving quite high, and as i sit there standing on the
brake, the Oil light starts to flicker. I bump the car into neutral and the
light goes out. I pull up to the next light, same thing. So the next day I
lower the Idle speed before going to work, but still the same thing. Does
the oil light protect against temp or pressure. and why would it come on
when in drive and not in idle. and any ideas to checka dn fix this?
