> Does anyone have a copy of or know of a web location of the hard start relay wiring diagram? > I think you would have to know what relay you have... there are several versions. The basic concept is 3 wires: 1 input wire from battery connection (often a ring to hook into existing battery connection on starter solenoid) 1 input wire from ignition switch (often a male spade to plug the existing wire in) 1 output wire to starter solenoid (often a female to plug into existing solenoid connection) On the early 6v Type 3s, assuming you have cleaned all wiring connections and ground straps and checked your battery, I've found that usual voltage drop culprit is: 1. The wire from the voltage regulator under the rear seat to the ignition switch. Run another wire under the carpet from regulator to ignition switch. Check/clean all your regulator connections first, sometimes they get rusty if any water has got in there (especially in Type 34s where the regulator in mounted right next to the floor) 2. The wire from the switch to the solenoid. Consider running another wire from the ignition, under the carpet, through the battery cable hole, and to the start solenoid. Or install the relay (less work). Or replace your wiring harness (lots of work) This only applies when the car is hot after an extended drive or very hot outside. If you are having problems when it's cold, you need to go through the system cleaning stuff and/or check your battery. -- Everett Barnes everettb@thesamba.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
