It's often hard to get those threads started in there straight, even with everthing loose and off the car, but it should be doable. It won't require damaging anything, but it will take some time to get everything apart. He'll want to torch the exhaust studs to get the nuts off without hurting anything. Once everything is off, he can dig out the remains of the old gasket, perhaps scrape the threads to get any rust out of the way, and then try to get the threaded fittings started with everything out of the car. Final tightening should be done IN the car once everything is back into its final position. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
