You are right. I do the valves first while it is cold (valve lash specs are for a cold valvetrain), then the point dwell and then the timing. Then I go run some errands, revel in a tune-up that I probably put off too long, and return home when it's good and warm so all the junk is movin around and the oil isnt quite so viscous. Then I wait a little while till it all settles back into the sump and change the oil while it is still warm.
