Thanks. I think the vinyl had a different molded surface on the earliest cars, but I've never seen an original early mat up close. I'm going to be doing some research at the VW Classic this weekend.


Why "mid-'64"

O.k., now you've made me go to the parts book. Actually I was wrong, these would only fit the 1965 model year exactly. As far as I can tell there would need to be three different basic patterns: 1961-63 (with heater knob, and heater tube on "firewall"), 1964 (heater levers on center of tunnel replace knob), and 1965 (no heater tube on firewall). There would have to be RHD versions of each too. If anyone is aware of other yearly changes that would affect the mats please let me know!


and "pre-1966"

I think rubber mats were only offered from 1961-65 on the deluxe models. Does anyone know if they were standard on N or A models after August 65?
