I've got Weber ICTs on my '68 squareback right now but I want to switch to stock (for '67) Solexes. I've bought a couple pair of Solexes (32 pdsit-2 and - 3). These need to be rebuilt since they've been sitting for quite sometime. I'd like to soak them in something to at least get the grunge off the outsides and loosen up the linkage and throttle shafts. What's the best thing for this? I vaguely remember hearing that soaking in carb cleaner can actually be bad. Did I hear that right? Or would WD-40 or kerosene be better? What do you pros out there use?
