Re: [T3] Troubleshooting Website
<x-flowed>
Everyone --
My dream project has been to build a sort of present-day
manual or compendium of How-To's for Type IIIs. This would
particularly include repair items that many Type IIIs need, but that
don't appear directly in any manual. For example...
o Clogged fresh-air drain hoses
o Cracked fuel filler overflow hose
o Loose upper torsion bar
o Water leaks due to incorrectly-installed f.i. ecu
o Repair of clock's internal fuse
I would also love to make available a sort of introductory
maintenance/repair guide. Target audiences might include folks new
to auto repair, or VW folks who are new to the Type III ("I open the
engine compartment and I can see straight through to the ground! Oh
no!"). Maybe a "I just got a Type III, how do I get it into top
running condition?" guide.
There are also the various VW diagnostic publications that
folks have been discussing. And, Russ, Toby, Dave, Aaron and others
already have a number of resource available; items could be copied
over, but links work fine, too.
Most everything above has been discussed on the list at least
once. ;) A first draft at some of these topics could be produced by
pasting together or synthesizing list threads.
I think that the biggest portion of this task is not so much
technical, but rather coordinating the efforts of contributors.
Another approach might therefore be to develop documentation by using
a tool that allows listees to edit documentation on-line -- maybe
something like a WikiWiki Web (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki) or maybe a
little more structured.
Whew, a lot to think about before breakfast...
