The 68-9 ignition switch has wire leads (maybe 2 ft long) permanently attached to the back of it. The 71 switch has male spade connectors that stick out the back. I'm not sure how much room there is in there, but if you still have the 69 steering column, there may not be room for all the connectors and this may be forcing something to short to ground. I looked it up and the switch you need is a 311 905 865 A. It fits 68-70. The 71 switches (B version) that you have are have are extremely hard to find and command a premium price. You could sell them easily. This info is from the type 3 microfilm, so I suppose there is some chance that the type 34 was different, but I doubt it. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
