I am hoping someone can tell me how to figure out the torque necessary for a given fastener (bolt, nut, screw, rivet, etc.). I have HP Books "High Performance Hardware" (a good beginners guide to fasteners) and the 26th edition of "Machinery's Handbook" and I can't figure out how to determine a torque setting for a given fastener. It's just a general would-be-neat-to-know for me. The MH does have a variety of formulas but I'm not sure which to use and the one I did use (wrench torque) gave me values that I don't seem right so...can anyone give me an idiot's guide to establishing torque values? ;-) Toby "really, I'm not a geek...honest!"
