I think my shift rod bushing is probably cracked or missing...due to the clunky feel of the shifter. I had this same problem with my bus-actually i was under my bus noticed it was cracked, and replaced it-thereafter the shifting was much smoother. i checked the bentley on replacing this-it looks pretty straight forward.
