The 50's beetles sure were cool! I don't remember the 50's, My Mother was born in 1950 :-) I love the colours of the times too. The type 3 is pearl white, although I realy wish it was silver... It may well be soon enough too :-) One of the new BMW silvers, either titanium (my favourite) or the other slightly blue one (steel blue??). I don't know for sure whether diamond green (57 colour) was metallic, but there was an enthusiasm for metallics around then, and I persuade my memory that I've seen it! My brother had a 1951 Jowett Javelin in a metallic green so I may be fooling myself. The metallics went out of fashion again until the early 70s. The 1000000th Beetle was bronze too - there were certainly bronze Ovals about. in the mid-50s. Thanks Alan for that reminder of the '50s. I reckon we've confirmed that the Type 1 was the first VW in history to get metallic paint! Dave.
