Most likely you got a little confused, take your dist cap off, turn the engine so as to make the rotor turn counterclockwise, stop with #1 lined up(timing pulley mark up), adjust #1 valves, continue turning the engine so as to line up the rotor to point to #2 firing position(Timing pulley mark down), adjust #2 valves. turn engine till #3 lines up on the dist(timing pully mark up),adjust #3 valves. continue turning the engine untill #4 lines up in the dist(timing pully mark down).
