On your generator, the wire running from one field to > another was unbroken; the only problem was the scorched armature. If you have a commutator that has scorch marks in particular areas and not on others, then this can often be a sign that there is a short or open somewhere in the armature. A motor shop will test for these with a device called a growler, but the test that I described in my earlier email will also find them. If you have a problem like this, then the armature's probably shot. If you have one bad armature and one bad field winding, you could put the 2 together to make one to return for your core charge, and another to keep as a spare. That might make up somewhat for the one they gave you that wore thru the field wire. ;-) -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
