Odds are that the fuel they used had oil added for 2 stroke motors. It'll run crappy until you dilute the oil in the gas with fresh fuel, along with a fresh filter, that'll be oil soaked. I add old, oil laden, and crappy gas to my truck to use it up, but with a 20 gallon tank, with an old basic V8, it'll run on anything, but I might not do it to my Sqbk, and never would do it to a FI vehicle.
