Do I > line the case up in the middle of this? Just time off the #1 spot, but you can check the others if there seem to be problems. I generally just use the other flat when I'm adjusting the valves, so I know that I'm close to TDC for #2 & 4. To see more precisely where TDC must be, you can look at the #1 timing marks and note where in the flat the TDC notch falls. You can consider there to be a "virtual" notch in the corresponding position of the plain flat. Don't take it upon yourself to put a mark there, however.
