Any Bosch VW 6V solenoid will fit and work. They are probably still available 
new, but I suspect that there are good ones easily to be found on junk 6V VW 
starters.

My first guess would be a loose set screw for the sway bar, but I don't know 
why this would only affect L turns. Wheel bearings are readily available, and 
you should be able to inspect the outer ones rather easily.
