[T3] AB dizzy timing
<x-flowed>
Ok, so I'll count this as Type III content, as it is a
question about the Type III A-B fuel injection distributor.
I have one on a stockish 1600 upright w/ dual kads. I'm
using it as strictly mechanical advance. It's spec'ed in Bentley as
having 15deg of mech. advance at the distributor, so 30 degrees at
the crank. I found some people's conversions for measuring linearly
along the circumference of the upright pulley to mark the 30degree
mark, so I used this w/ my timing light to adjust the timing
dynamically to advance to this mark at max advance.
Not really putting 2 and 2 together, I decided to have a look
at the timing statically after I'd set it dynamically. I found I'd
timed it to maybe a degree or two before tdc when measured
statically. Then, of course, I realized that it's supposed to give
30degrees max advance at the crank... and if I'd timed it to
30degrees max advance, then it'd be at 0 degrees tdc when checked
statically. Duh.
Now, I kinda doubt that I had good figures for determining
the 30degree mark on the pulley, and I may not have measured well.
How well can I trust that my distributor does not have, say, 32 or 33
degrees actual advance at the crank? Are they pretty reliable? Now,
if this were being installed in a Type III and statically timed a la
Muir, it would be set to 0 degrees; when you floored the Type III at
medium/high rpms, the vac advance wouldn't be engaged, and the
conditions would be a lot like my engine...
So, should I retime the car statically to 0deg tdc with this
dizzy for a little more oomph? Or do I likely run the risk of
killing my engine by running it too advanced?

(p.s.: it seems to drive a bit more smoothly than with the 009.
Also, I'd assumed that the 009 cap and rotor would just swap on, but
the Type III shaft size is different, so I installed the Type III cap
and rotor.)
