Re: [T3] Dual 40 DCNF Carbs

<x-flowed>> If you lived in a colder climate before the FI revolution there were
always gas
stations which made part of their living helping people get their cars started
on cold days. The mechanics who did this came around, when called, in a
tow truck equipped with a generator set which could boost the car's battery.

i grew up in germany. it never got that cold.... :)

On the heated wire sensors, can dust on this wire just be wiped off carefully
without damaging it?

you don't. first of all, the wires are behind protective screens. you could not get to them. secondly, you really would not want to try it, anyway. these wires are only 70 micrometers (!) in diameter and probably really easily damaged if anything touched them directly.

the air mass sensors actually have a "self cleaning" mode, kind of like a self-cleaning oven. while the wire temperature during normal operation is set about 100 degrees centigrade above the incoming air temperature they are heated to 1000 degrees centigrade for about one second just after engine shut-down. this will ensure the wire is clean for the next startup.

as an interesting tidbit, the wires will not be superheated if...

- during the time of operation the engine never reached 3000 RPM, supposedly to ensure that immediate restarts will not happen with the wire at an abnormal temperature. this is going on the assumption that if the engine has not reached 3000 RPM during this run then it is not being operated in a normal driving situation, maybe it is being run in the shop.

- the engine stops running at less than 200 RPM because that is assumed to mean the engine stalled for some reason. that way the wire will not glow after, say, an accident.
