I try dry usually, but I do avoid detergent. I have heasrd it suggested that it attacks rubber. Use KY jelly :-) I'm not kidding. The other cool thing is you get to go to a pharmacist ad ask for a 1 litre jar of KY :-). There is also Rocol (sp?) a purpose made rubber grease.
