Crap, my '67 Square has those gaskets on it. I have them installed the
same way John J. does, as I saw it pictured in a manual. There are no air
leaks or running problems that I've noticed.

The 3/4 side had an air leak when I bought the car, I removed the manifold,
surfaced it, and reinstalled with a new metal gasket. That cured the leak.

Something to correct this weekend.
