Right now I'm leaning in the direction of the cutout hardware being somewhat out of position and sticking above the face of the piston, combined with the calipers being installed on the wrong sides (upside down.) Either that, or both outside caliper halves are mismachined, or it could be the mating plane on the inside halves which is machined wrong. Or it could be pads which were not parallel to start with.... Pretty strange overall, but I would just check the hardware and make sure that everything is correct and in place and then ignore the uneven wear.
