Originally there were 2 FI throttle cables: M236 with straight end, and 
M236/M249 with threaded end. VW long ago superceeded the straight one 
with the threaded one which is 311 721 555F (2610mm) which is listed with 
M236 and M236/M249.

That's when the AT was first introduced, only together with twin carbs.

The M249 throttle cable has to be a dual carb cable since M236 is not 
mentioned and AT never came with the single carb. This is 311 721 555G 
(2670mm)

It appears that this cable is NLA from VW, but we may still find them with 
the aftermarket suppliers.
