Would this engine be built up using a "universal" engine case? If so, could it be
leaking from the port that the beetles use for an oil
pressure sender? Or maybe the oil galley that has a a plug directly below and left of the distributor?
Also, have you checked the parting line of the two
case halves for a leak that might be caused by a poor
seal of the case halves?


Well, since the oil spot was right in the middle between the distributor and oil cooler, there is no way for the oil to come up to the top from the oil plug sender. And as far as I can remember, he has his original engine, or at least another old engine, not a new one. Ken, can you tell us about your engine number?
