i don't have any experience with auto's but the thing to do is put in a 
beefy relay from the battery to the starter and use the ignition switch as a 
power signal for the relay. then you could also put a switch in the line and 
not worry about power draw. if you hide the relay or put it in a project 
box, it could never be found by a theif. even one that knows vw's. this also 
solves the 'old power system not giving the starter enogh juice'
