Is this generally true of sealed beam lamps? Are they all symmetrical, and
if so how well do they light the edge of the road? The newer VWs seem to

this problem.

At least the ones I saw when I was in USA were not assymetrical. At the camp grounds in Caldwell, north of Parma, I did a small light tech session for the few of us still there on Sunday evening. Among a few other things, I adjusted the lights on the 4 cars there, Toby's, Ken's and Lawrence's cars which had original VW Sealed beams, and Eric's (aka Thorkild) which had H4s. All the sealed beams had just a patch of light which acted as a low beam, really inferior light when you are used to the nice, full, even pattern of the H4 lights.
