<x-charset iso-8859-1>What's the deal on this glueing the gasket to the R/C and/or the head? I have never done this in 35 years of a/c VW ownership/maintenance, and I don't believe it was ever normal VW servicing practice. Is it something commonly done on other engines in the USA? Is it a problem in hot countries - weakening of the bale-arm springs or something? We can easily get good quality neoprene/cork composition gaskets. I once had trouble with a crumbly cork one from a cheap engine gasket set. Is this what you normally get in the USA? Does anyone in other countries have to glue gaskets on? I usually use a new gasket each time. If I need to re-use one, I put it in a shallow dish of boiling water to get it to swell up again. Dave.
