No, it's not necessary. The dist will only go ALL THE WAY back in one way. 
The mistake that people make is that they put the dist in, but they don't get 
the drive dog lined up with the slot. It will sometimes catch and you can even 
get it to run by rearranging the SP wires, but it will soon slip and stop  
running.
