If you had an engine fire, this would be obvious from above, and I assume you had the engine cover open when you were doing this. It would probably be prudent to consider dry grass which might have grown up into the engine area over the last 2 years; with no exhaust, you could start a grass fire that would take your Square with it. Otherwise, I suspect that the smoke you see is from oil which has crept out onto surfaces which are normally kept clean by heat. Or the occasional mouse nest and carcass.... What's the plural of carcass? carcasses, carci...?
